How to get a Gen C and Gen C Elevate role? Complete Guidance and Interview Preparation

Cognizant believes in hiring passionate individuals who have the zeal to excel and go beyond boundaries to make a difference with their digital competence. Our hiring process recognizes how students come with varied exposure to IT. We offer them options based on their interest and IT prowess. In the second phase of campus hiring process Cognizant provide two different roles i.e. Gen C and Gen C Elevate. Later on, they evaluate the candidates background and sometimes offers the Gen C Pro to the selected candidates.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • For GenC Elevate: B.E/B.Tech/M.Tech/MCA/M.Sc (CS & IT) students from 2023 batch (CSE, ECE, EEE, IT, Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Information Science Engineering and allied branches only).
  • For GenC: 2023 batch of B.E/B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech/ MCA, MS Software Engineering (Five year integrated course degree), M.Sc (CS & IT) students only.
  • Students should possess consistent academic record with 60% or greater in X, XII, Diploma, UG & PG (all subjects will be taken into consideration) calculated as below.
  • Aggregate% = sum of all subjects marks scored / total no. of subjects (as of 5th semester result declared).
  • Students with standing arrears or more than 2 years gap in education are not eligible.
  • At the time of joining, recruits should have an overall aggregate score of 60% or greater (all subjects will be taken into consideration) with no standing arrears.
  • Aggregate for the Students who have applied for re-evaluation (and are waiting for the results) will be derived based on the initial scores.
  • CGPA to % conversion will be considered as per University norms.
  • Opportunities are open to Indian nationals/OCIs/ PIOs who are currently residing in India.
  • Students should be of 18-28 years of age to apply.

Mandatory documents for registration:

The registration link will be shared with college TPOs and the students must scan and upload the below mentioned documents into a single pdf file while registering.

  • Resume attached with passport size photograph.
  • College ID card.
  • All academic documents including the school certificates and college semester mark sheets.

Profile Information:

  • Candidates are required to select the technical assessment during registration to apply for the GenC Elevate category of hiring.
  • Candidates are required to select the aptitude test during registration to apply for GenC category of hiring.
  • Name of the student and DOB should exactly match with 10th mark sheet.
  • Ensure student registration is done with accuracy as the same will be considered as final and no changes will be encouraged later. Incase any discrepancy is found in the name, scores uploaded & educational documents given, the profile will be disqualified.
  • It is mandatory to declare gaps in education. Any break in education should not exceed 2 years.
  • All communications to students and TPOs will be predominantly through Superset platform and students can confirm their status in the platform.

Job Profile:

  • Gen C : Programmer Analyst Trainee - 4 LPA
  • Gen C Elevate : Programmer Analyst Trainee - 4 LPA + An additional skill bonus will be provided for Gen C Elevate category of hiring.

Recruitment Process

Interview Experience

  • Tell me about yourself. (Prepare it thoroughly)
  • What are the programming languages you are familiar with?
  • What is your final year project.
  • What are the projects you have done during your academics. (Try to demonstrate few of your projects from GitHub if you have uploaded those. Otherwise you can show them from your local machine.)
  • Can you write a code for swapping two numbers without using a third variable. (You can use any programming language)
  • Can you show the inheritance using a Java program.
  • What Least Value Must Be Assigned To * So That The Number 63576*2 Is Divisible By 8? (Aptitude Questions)
The test for divisibility by 8 is that the last 3 digits of the number in question have to be divisible by 8.
So, 6*2 has to be divisibile by 8.
I know 512 is divisible by 8.
Also 592 is divisible by 8.
So, 632 is divisible by 8.

  • Raju, Ramu And Razi Can Do A Piece Of Work In 20, 30 And 60 Days Respectively Depending On Their Capacity Of Doing Work. If Raju Is Assisted By Ramu And Razi On Every Third Day, Then In How Raju Will Complete The Work? (Aptitude Questions)
We need t first count the amount of work done in 2 days by Raju.
Raju can do a piece of work in 20 days.
So, in 2 days he can do = 1/20 * 2 = 1/10.
Amount of work done by Raju, Ramu and Razi in 1 day 
= 1/20 + 1/30 + 1/60 
= 1/10
Amount of work done in 3 days = 1/10 + 1/10 = 1/5
So the work will be completed in 3 * 5 = 15 days [Ans]
  • A Tap Can Fill A Bucket In 6 Hours. After Half The Bucket Is Filled, Three More Similar Taps Are Opened. What Is The Total Time Taken To Fill The Bucket Completely? (Aptitude Questions)
Time is taken by one tap to fill half the bucket = 3 hours.
So the part filled 4 taps in one hour = 4 * (1/6) = 2/3 of the bucket.
Therefore, the remaining part is = (11/2) = 1/2
Proportionally à 2/3: 1/2:: 1: x
=> x = 3/4 hours = 45 minutes. So the total time = 3 hrs 45 minutes. [Ans]
  • A Reduction Of 20% In The Price Of Strawberries Enables A Person To Purchase 12 More For Rs. 15. What Was The Price Of 16 Strawberries Before Reduction Of Price? (Aptitude Questions)
Price x Consumption = Expenditure
or, (15 / 8x) – (15 / x) = 12
or, x = (15 x 2) / (12 x 8)

For 16 Strawberries = [(15 x 2) / (12 x 8)] x 16 = 5. [Ans]

This was all about the technical/SME interview. It took almost 25-30 minutes for me, it depends on the interviewer how he/she approached you. After clearing all these steps, Mindtree will inform your college placement cell about your selection in roles they are allocating you. It's a long process, almost 25-30 days to complete the whole thing. But you need to prepare yourself always, because you'll be informed for the interview before 12 hours only. You need to be prepared always, so that you don't have to fall for the last minute rush.

The Gen C Pro role is a special role provided by the company where you need to showcase some out of the box industry ready talent which will fulfill the business requirements of the company. For example, having a certificate in Japanese language will give you an extra edge and you can be selected for the Gen C Pro role. But make sure you have to show the proper verified certificate otherwise they will not allow you to sit for the placements. If you are unable to show them the proper certification of the special skills that you are proposing to them, they will not consider you even in the Gen C category.
