My Experience as a Mentor at Kharagpur Winter of Code, 2022

A complete drill to crack GSoC!

Kharagpur Winter of Code (KWoC) is a global program that aims to bring together students from around the world to work on open source projects. The program is organized by the students of Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur (IIT Kharagpur) and runs for six weeks, usually in the winter months of December and January.

Participating in KWoC is a great opportunity for students to gain practical experience in open source software development, while also contributing to the development of important projects. The program is open to students from all disciplines, and there is no requirement to have prior experience in open source development.

During KWoC, students work on projects under the guidance of mentors from the open source community. These mentors provide support and guidance to help students complete their projects successfully. In addition to working on their projects, students also have the opportunity to attend workshops and talks by industry experts, as well as participate in hackathons and other events.

Project ML-Crate

ML-Crate is a project that provides tools and libraries for machine learning and data science in Python. It aims to make it easy for developers to use machine learning techniques in their projects by providing a simple and intuitive API.

ML-Crate includes a variety of tools and libraries for tasks such as data loading and preprocessing, model training and evaluation, and model deployment. It is designed to be easy to use and allow developers to focus on building their machine learning models, rather than having to spend time on low-level implementation details.

ML-Crate is an open source project and is available on GitHub. If you are interested in using ML-Crate in your projects, you can find more information and installation instructions on the project's GitHub page. Check out here, ML-Crate Project Repository.

Contributions

ML-Crate project repository has got 12 new contributions throughout this event. Throughout this journey, it has got 19 new pull requests merged, 218 commits, 273184 lines of code have been added. It was a huge success from the contributions' perspective.

Diversity of contributors!

KWoC has a strong focus on diversity and inclusion and aims to create an inclusive and welcoming environment for all participants. The program has a strong emphasis on mentorship, and there are many opportunities for students to connect with and learn from experienced professionals in the field.

Overall, KWoC is a fantastic opportunity for students to gain practical experience in open source development, while also contributing to the development of important projects. If you are a student interested in participating in KWoC 2022, be sure to keep an eye out for application announcements, which usually open in the months leading up to the program.
